In accordance with its mission for the advancement of academic capacities, the development of education systems, and the promotion of effective and quality teaching, and as envisioned by its Strategic Development Plan, the Center of Teaching Excellence of the University of Prishtina, delivered two rounds of two-day trainings for the University of Prishtina full-time staff during the months of November and December 2017.
The trainings in “Teaching in Higher Education”, comprised a number of crucial modules relating to contemporary theories and approaches in higher education teaching and learning. The participants were introduced to theories of learning and their implications in the teaching practice, alongside with learning and teaching styles, effective teaching, and interactive teaching techniques. The modules of designing the learning outcomes, presentations skills, classroom and group management, as well as assessment and evaluation, were also included in the trainings.
Through innovative approaches and experiential learning, demonstrations and discussions with their trainers and peers, the participants in the trainings were provided ample time and opportunity in integrating theory and practice through experiential learning. Guided by the team of experienced trainers of the CTE the participants gained valuable knowledge and skills and confidence in applying them in their own classrooms.
The participants feedback was not only highly positive, but in their comments, many of them expressed willingness and readiness to participate in the trainings organized by the CTE in future, which proves that they have embraced the philosophy of life-long learning, essential ingredient of effective teaching.
The activity of the Center of Teaching Excellence culminated in certification ceremony organized at the Rectorate whereby 37 University of Prishtina professors and assistants were rewarded certificates on successful completion of all the modules of the trainings in “Teaching in Higher Education”.
